The Doctrine of Faith

Faith is not belief, let alone blind belief without any sort of evidence. Faith is a strong feeling that something may exist or may be true, but to be contrasted with belief, because there is still room for doubt. As Kierkegaard says, if someone believes something, that is, they are certain, then what need is there for faith? Everyone has faith – whether it be in something as complicated as a “God” or something as simple as their own viability.

No one can know for sure – i.e. believe – that they are going to live from one second to the next, because death could come suddenly and for any reason at all. However, they have faith that they wil continue to live. Faith is particularly powerful if we consider that the whole universe is a manifestation of thought phenomena, because faith – especially when shared amongst a large group of people – wills things into existence.
